![]() SFSU bonded their lifelong friendship as they organized to establish a BSU and a Black Studies Department there. Jerry and Jimmy met more than fifty years ago at San Francisco State College (now San Francisco State University or SFSU) in 1965. I transcribed and edited the interview after the conference, and then I consulted with Jerry and Jimmy for clarity and flow. Prior to the visit of Jerry and Jimmy, I conducted an interview with them together on April 11, 2019. The event was part of CSU Stan’s third annual Ethnic Studies conference on April 29, 2019, commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the field. They also discuss their wider activism and community engagement in the field of Ethnic Studies as well as their thoughts on the direction of the field today.
